Born in Aman, Jordan, Widad started sewing as a hobby by making wedding dresses for her friends and family. Her career began with the opening of a small shop at the age of 15. In 1985 Widad moved to Houston, Texas to be with her family, and began working as a seamstress in a small boutique near Sugar land. Here, her personal love for sewing continued to grow, and she spent many years perfecting her craft.

From there, she went to work with a wonderfully talented wedding dress designer – Yuki – who took Widad under her wing and gave her an amazing apprenticeship. Yuki had contracts with world famous wedding dress designers such as Ungaro and Valentino to purchase Italian silks and copy their original dress designs. This is where Widad discovered her deep love of helping to give brides-to-be the perfect dress.

Widad has since worked at Penny Chapel of Houston, I do I do Wedding Boutique, and then spent 10 years as Head Seamstress at Priscilla of Boston.

Since then, Widad has continued to succeed in her dream of pouring her compassion, love, and extraordinary talent into each wedding gown to give her brides the gift of looking and feeling more beautiful than she ever has before.

Her passion for her business and for her craft is obvious and contagious. Her love of helping each bride create the exact dress of her dreams – from taking the family heirloom dress and making it her very own, to custom fitting a brand new dress – is apparent in every detail.

It is because of this love and passion that Widad’s Couture Alterations has become a staple in Houston’s bridal community for personalizing your look, and for doing the almost impossible in custom alterations.
